Welcome to V8 Art Gallery’s first program.
Today at the premiere of our channel I’m going to interview the first artist to launch a collection on V8art. He is a great friend and
gallery supporter.
I have followed his work for over 20 years and it is with great pleasure that I invite Mauricio Negro.
Thank you José, here we are, let’s launch the V8, a novelty in the market
His story with illustration is very long and very beautiful.
For those who don’t know Maurício,
he illustrated wonderful books and some are part of many people’s libraries. You collaborated also with several indigenous authors. Various collections of texts, etc. Could you highlight for some of the most interesting works in this area?
They are different stages of the career. At the beginning it illustrated what appeared, all kinds of books. But with time, those subjects that have more adherence, seem to strengthen and begin to appear more frequently, until it becomes a reference. In the case of indigenous illustration this happened not only through the image, because I believe I am probably the illustrator who has done the most indigenous books, from various parts of the world, not just Brazil. And then when you speak indigenous also traditional peoples, for example from Oceania, from Africa, who are also indigenous peoples, in the understanding that an indigenous person is the one who owns that place. And become a reference in this sense, related to the environment, nature and these communities and also the contemporary manifestations.
The indigenous theme takes us some of the pieces from its collection that will be our first release. But before getting there I want to ask you about the theme of the collection “Symbiosis & Synapses”.
What do you mean by this title?
Initially there were two collections and then even the curatorial work of V8 made its presence felt and they were merged into one because it has certain images that could be in one or the other and I like that because which is perhaps a hallmark of my work, and I say this not as vanity but as a consequence, which some colleagues have already detected, is that I work a lot with layers of sense. You can do an immediate reading but on a second look suddenly another sense starts to appear, a second intention blossoms, it depends of course on the repertoire, the sensitivity and interpretation of each.
But I seek to do that. Words and images that are like suitcases that open. And then things begin to reveal
and this collection inevitably brings that.
It’s a kind of visual pun, aphorisms and such. I like it a lot too in spoken language. So much so that there are phrases in the middle of the NFTs, there are phrases there too.
The works in your collection have this approach, many are very clear synapses, even anecdotal
Blockchain, Rolling Stones, Beesiness.
Others are more reflective like: Love Story, Mining and Amazon.
I would like you to comment a little more on this.
When we launch a book, with or without text, let’s talk about an image book that that has no text, the text is visual. Often people’s interpretation surprises you because they take the paths you hadn’t noticed yourself. Suddenly you are even able to also detect along with it. You discover together why creation is funny, its product earns an independent life and you just follow along, it’s like leaving your child in the world. The child is not yours, it is of the world and art is the same thing. What I think is that the difference now is that whoever accompanies me in literature or eventually in a documentary with images, you already know my repertoire, my experience, my speech.
And then I can predict a little more. But when it comes to Crypto Art the message is getting spread around the world, for all languages included, transcending this barrier, since the image is capable.
And it’s unpredictable, but at the same time it’s great for us.
You even you have a chance to hear impressions, feel a return from an audience that you have no idea who it is. I find it very challenging.
This is the story of our first collection that features Mauricio Negro as Featured artist at the launch of V8 Art Gallery.
Maurício I want to thank you very much for believe in this idea and help us launch our artists into this Brave New World of web3.
I appreciate V8’s invitation to be part of this select group specially curated to make the first release and also continue, always thinking about offering while Crypto Art, more consistency, a speech, a symbolic message, a narration because we uses illustration in this way as a thought already in their own careers and through this new support.
I think we can amplify this enormously, in a society saturated with images.
The challenge is out, let’s see what happens.
And the V8art is making all this possible, thank you.
